Police nab NPA rebel, drug pusher in Sorsogon, Albay

A suspected New People Army (NPA) rebel was arrested on Monday, Apr. 26 by police operatives at his residence in a remoted village in Matnog town in Sorsogon, a police report said.


Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol, identified the suspect as Jose Amante, 50, of Barangay Sua, a member of the Militia ng Bayan under the Jose Maria Estiller group of the New People’s Army (NPA) guerilla front Larangan 2.


Police operatives armed with a warrant of arrest swooped down and arrested the suspects at his residence at around 5:45 PM.


The suspect is facing criminal complaint for attempted murder and is now in the custody of the town police station.


Meanwhile, an alleged notorious illegal drug pusher selling P340,000 worth of suspected shabu (crystal meth) was nabbed on Monday, Apr. 26 in a drug sting in Polangui town in Albay.


Randy Abonite Priolo, 39, a high value target (HVT) drug dealer of Barangay Alomon was caught in a drug buy bust operation at around 11:00 AM in Barangay Kinale, Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, regional police spokesperson said.


Seized from the suspect was a sachet of shabu weighing 50 grams and marked money.


The suspect including the seized illegal drugs were brought to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) custodial facility in Legazpi City.
