Registered voters in Naga reach 119,000

By Paulo DS. Papa

Naga City has now 118,951 registered voters after the registration for the May 2022 elections ended on Oct. 30, the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the city said.

Lawyer Maico Julia Jr., Naga City Comelec chief, said that some 12,711 voters were added to the 106,240 registered voters already registered in the city as of June 30, 2021.

Out of the new 12,711 registrants, some 8,586 registered from July 1 to Sept. 30 while another 4,125 registered from Oct.11-30. To recall, the Comelec extended the voters registration from the original deadline on Sept. 30 to the Oct. 30.

The Comelec used the Robinson’s Place, SM City Naga and Vista Mall to accommodate more registrants during the last two months of voters registration.

Julia said the registration of 8,586 voters who registered from July 1 to Sept. 30 was already approved by the Election Registration Board (ERB) last Oct. 18.

He also said that the 4,125 voters who registered from Oct. 11-30 will be approved in the ERB hearing on Nov. 11.

Julia said the 12,711 newly registered voters in the city include first time voters and voters who transferred their registration in the city. Voters who are already dead will be removed from the voters list in December this year.

Candidates in the May 2022 elections have the right to get from the Comelec copies of the list of voters in cities and towns from campaign purposes, Julia said.
