San Francisco Parish marks Silver Anniversary

The Parish of St. Francis of Assisi in Naga City celebrated its 25th Foundation Anniversary last February 20, 2023, with a Eucharistic Celebration held at the San Francisco Church. The Silver Anniversary Celebration had the theme “25 Years Of Nurturing The Community Guided By The Spirituality Of Saint Francis.” The mass was presided by Caceres Archbishop Rolando J. Tria Tirona, OCD, DD. He was joined by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Wilfred V. Almoneda, Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Jhun Oliva and other members of the Caceres clergy. In his homily, Archbishop Tria Tirona encouraged the people to draw inspiration from St. Francis and to pray that they may transform the hearts of the people to be full of love, faith, and service. Rev. Fr. Almoneda commended the parishioners for their dedication to the Church and commitment to alleviating poverty. He also thanked the priests who were instrumental in leading the faithful to a deep devotion to Mama Mary and Jesus.
On February 20, 1998, the late Archbishop of Caceres the Most Rev. Leonardo Z. Legaspi, O.P., D.D. issued a decree of canonical erection of the San Francisco Church due to the demands of the Catholic faithful in some barangays in Naga City. The first parish priest was Most Rev. Gilbert Garcera, D.D, who is now the Archbishop of Lipa in Batangas. The Parish of San Francisco survived the test of time and evolved as a faith community. Because of its strategic location in the business district of the city, the parish is able to hold 3 to 4 masses from Monday to Saturday, and 15 masses every Sunday.
