ON August 16, 2024, nearly 50 media practitioners convened at the Basilica Minore Small Hall for an orientation seminar organized by the Caceres Commission on Communications (CCCOM) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Camarines Sur Chapter.
Anchored on the theme, “Se Siempre La Reina, Pamanang Banal: Atamanon, Padanayon, Palakupon,” the activity aimed to prepare media practitioners for the upcoming media coverage of events as part of the Centenary of the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia celebration this September.
The seminar began with a welcome address from KBP Camarines Sur Chairman Ron Enon, who emphasized the role of the media in the centenary celebration and the significance of the seminar in better equipping media practitioners.
Fr. Francis Tordilla, CCCOM Director, then led the orientation and introduced the speakers.
The first talk was delivered by Fr. Juan Pablo Carpio, vice rector of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Minor Basilica, who provided a comprehensive discussion on the centenary celebration of the canonical coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. His talk set the stage for understanding the historical context of the event.
Fr. Glenn Ruiz, Chairman of the Liturgy Commission, gave an in-depth explanation of the terminologies in media coverage related to the Traslacion and Fluvial Procession. Fr. Ruiz further emphasized the essence of these key events. His talk was crucial in equipping broadcast journalists with the knowledge and wisdom needed for an accurate and disciplined approach to reporting.
The seminar concluded with a session on “Faith in Photography and Videography during Peñafrancia Fiesta Coverage” and a basic livestreaming guide presented by Mr. Jess Romero, Mr. Ian Albao, and Mr. Dado Bien.
The final segment aimed to provide the participants with tips and techniques to enhance their technical skills, ensuring they are prepared to cover the centenary celebrations with the highest standards of professionalism.
True to Fr. Tordilla’s words that “Education is not simply information overload, but the change of heart,” the orientation seminar was a significant step in ensuring that media coverage of the Peñafrancia Fiesta is both informative and reverent of its religious importance.
