Shear line-affected families get over P5.6-M food packs

By Connie Calipay

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has distributed more than PHP5.6 million worth of food packs to families affected by adverse weather due to shear line in the Camarines provinces.

DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio said in a statement on Friday that the assistance was provided to 8,093 families across Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

In Camarines Norte, food packs were distributed in the barangays of Capacuan and Batobalani in Paracale town, and Del Pilar, San Antonio, and Mabini in Capalonga town.

The agency reported that beneficiary residents experienced hardships due to flooding and disruptions to their livelihoods caused by continuous heavy rainfall.

In Camarines Sur, 44 barangays in Caramoan received family food packs intended to meet the needs of residents as they recover from the effects of the weather disturbance that affected their communities.

DSWD-Bicol is actively collaborating with local government units (LGUs) to assess the situation in areas affected by the shear line and to identify those in need for additional relief support.

“The DSWD Bicol remains committed to assisting those most affected by disasters in the region,” he said. (PNA)
