VIRAC, Catanduanes --- The Social Security System (SSS) has issued violation notices to seven delinquent employers in this island province for failing to remit their workers’ contributions to the pension fund.

Rene Quinones, acting branch head of the SSS in Virac, said the SSS called on these firms to settle their contribution delinquencies amounting to P267,742, which he said was affecting the social security coverage of 53 employees.

Quinones, in an interview during the serving of the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) orders last March 25, said their branch has so far served 63 RACE orders since last year, for the benefit of 218 employees from 63 businesses.

The RACE operations collected a total of P3,043,943 in contributions, enabling the 218 employees to regain access to their SSS coverage.

Arra Rotugal from the SSS Central Luzon Legal Department, who participated in the operation, stated that the companies served with RACE notices are those that have repeatedly failed to remit their employees’ SSS contributions despite receiving prior notifications.

Rotugal explained that the SSS actively monitors employers’ accounts and can quickly identify those who are noncompliant.

In addition to this monitoring, affected employees can also directly report and file complaints with their office, she noted.

According to Rotugal, if employers continue to neglect their obligations after receiving a third notice, legal cases will be filed against them. (PIA5/Catanduanes)
