LEGAZPI CITY --- The Social Security System (SSS) Legazpi branch is expecting to collect over PHP342,000 in unpaid contributions from eight delinquent employers following its Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign on Friday.

SSS Legazpi branch head Jogar Tosoc said the collected amount will benefit 45 employees who are currently unable to access the privileges and benefits provided by the state insurer.

“Beyond the monetary compliance that these employers are neglecting, we must remember that employees are being deprived of their rights, specifically their security during times of need. This RACE campaign serves as a reminder for both employers and employees to ensure compliance. Employees should visit our office to verify if their employers are meeting their contribution obligations,” he said in an interview.

Tosoc said show cause orders will be served to the eight employers involved in retail, tire supply, beauty parlors, personal grooming services, manufacturing and restaurants.

“The delinquent employers have been given 15 days to comply. Their violations include non-registration and non-remittance of contributions,” he said.

Of the employers visited, 25 were fully compliant; 18 were partially compliant; 17 had installment plans; 12 were registered; one is facing a case; five received billing letters; one was compliant with record-keeping; and eight are awaiting compliance.

One employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said she is counting on her SSS pension benefits.

“I really hope my employer provides this for me because it’s an essential benefit. In times of need or emergencies, my family will have someone to rely on,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the SSS for organizing the RACE activity, which reminds employers of their responsibilities and protects the welfare of employees. (PNA)
