MASBATE CITY --- The Social Security System (SSS) has filed separate criminal charges against 11 business establishments here for failure to fulfill their duties and responsibilities to the country’s private pension system.

Lawyer Danilo Ayo of the SSS Luzon Bicol legal department said the 11 were charged before the Provincial Prosecution Office of Masbate last February.

“These employers have committed various violations. Some failed or refused to register their businesses at the start of operations, while others did not register their employees for SSS coverage. Still others failed to produce required records,” Ayo said.

SSS Masbate Branch Manager Donald Dalanon said the filing of charges was a result of the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign.

Dalanon said the 11 establishments were given multiple opportunities to comply with their legal obligations but they failed to do so.

“We previously visited the 11 employers during RACE operations to remind them of their legal duties to the SSS. However, they failed to comply despite receiving violation notices from the SSS,” he said.

Meanwhile, the SSS branch is also set to refer to the SSS Luzon Bicol legal department another 32 employers for not complying with their obligations under RA 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018.

“It is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility for employers to deduct their employees’ share of the monthly SSS contribution from their salaries and remit it, along with the employer’s share, to the SSS,” Dalanon explained. (PIA5/Masbate)
