LEGAZPI CITY --- The Social Security System (SSS) Legazpi branch is expecting to collect more than PHP3 million in unpaid contributions after it conducted its first Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign for 2025 on Friday.
The SSS said its officers have already served show cause orders to 10 delinquent employers that included a business process outsourcing (BPO) company, a construction corporation, two laundry services, an internet cafe, a repair shop, a mini grocery, a coffee shop, a retail of liquor, and a food service business, all with violations of non-registration and non-reporting.
The delinquent employers were given 15 days to comply.
In an interview before the visit, SSS Legazpi branch head Jogar Tosoc said conducting the RACE activity regularly has been effective in reminding employers of their obligations to report and remit the contributions of their employees.
“It is very effective. In fact, based on last year’s record, around PHP660 million was collected from 9,492 employees, so it’s really effective. In our experience with the branch, the employers we visited during the RACE campaign eventually complied,” Tosoc said.
He said it is important to remit real-time contributions to avail of benefits and privileges.
“There are seven benefits —of course, these include retirement, death, funeral, disability, sickness, maternity, and unemployment, plus loan privileges. The important thing is that contributions must be updated. For example, for the month of March, the payment should be made within the April cutoff. The employer must pay for all employees, and before making the payment, they should report it first,” Tosoc said.
Tosoc also said employees can check their real-time contribution through the SSS website, and employers can visit the branch office to be guided on the documentary requirements and process.
“For the employers, the SSS exists primarily to provide social protection for everyone —not just for the employees, but also for the employers themselves. This ensures peace of mind for all. That’s why employers must register their businesses, report their employees, deduct the SSS contributions, and remit the deducted amount. That’s how simple it is —they just need to comply,” he said.
