LEGAZPI CITY---Masbate residents, still recovering from the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Opong, are beginning to get back on their feet as local government units and national agencies work hand in hand to deliver much-needed aid by affected communities.
Jose Pacheco, 67, from Bantigue, a coastal fishing village in Masbate shared his happiness after receiving food packs, rice, and other services from various government agencies.
What touched him the most was President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos’ visit to personally see their situation, which he said gave them hope amid the hard situation.

Pacheco is among the countless residents of Masbate, who were left homeless after the tropical cyclone unleashed its fury on the island.
He shared that after losing his home, he now finds refuge in a nearby church together with five other families.
Despite the challenges, he remains grateful for the rice, food packs, and financial aid they received — but what touched him most was the presence of President Marcos who personally came to offer his time and other government resources.
Amalia Gelig, 48 years old, also from Batigue will avail of the calamity assistance worth P10,000.00 after her house was toppled by the pack of strong winds brought by Opong.
“Totally wash out, wara kami matirhan, nakatira kami ngayon sa kapatid ko, ang problema, uuwi ang kapatid ko galing sa Maynila, Makasurvive lang kami sa araw- araw. Kaya malaking tulong itong financial assistance para sa unti-unti naming pagbangon,” Gelig said.
70-year old Merly Nepomocenu from Barangay Batuhan, Masbate City extended her gratitude to President Marcos for the immediate assistance after describing what they’ve been through in the aftermath of Opong.
During his speech at the distribution of aid to families affected by the typhoon at Nursery Elementary School in Masbate on Wednesday, October 1, he assured the residents that the government will stand by them and continue extending assistance until they are able to fully rebuild their lives.
“Kaya po ay patuloy po ito. Huwag kayong mag-alala patuloy po ang suporta ng pamahalaan hangga’t nangangailangan kayo. Kahit na matagalan tayo nang kaunti dahil hindi pa ninyo naaayos ang inyong mga tahanan, naka-support na kami,” the President said.
