Students undergo cybersecurity awareness seminar

VIRAC, Catanduanes --- The office here of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) conducted a cybersecurity awareness seminar among college students last February 17.


According to DICT OIC-Provincial Officer Mario John D. Gonzales, the seminar aimed to raise the level of awareness of students on the importance of cybersecurity and help educate, empower, and protect individuals in cyberspace;


Create a more digitally-safe environment between family members by giving parents sufficient knowledge and tools to have important conversations with their children about a safe cyber experience shared the practices and considerations in cyberspace and why should we need to be vigilant in the online world.


The activity was attended by intern students of Christian Polytechnic Institute of Catanduanes (CPIC) Catanduanes State University (CatSU) College of ICT.


DICT expressed gratitude to Police Major Robert Kevin T. Caparroso, Chief of Police, Virac Municipal Police Station, Staff Sergeants Antonino B. Aquino and Renen P. Delos Reyes, Rev. Fr. Benjo Royce de Jesus, assistant parish priest of Palta Catholic Church.


Earlier on Feb. 10, DICT Catanduanes also conducted an orientaton on the Philippine National Public Key Infrastracture at Calatagan Elementary School at Calatagan, Virac, Catanduanes.


The purpose of the event was to ensure the secure electronic transfer of information for various network activities such as e-commerce, internet banking, and confidential email. It was one of the DICT's core services that would foster trust in the government by ensuring secure and reliable online transactions. (PIA5/Catanduanes)
