SORSOGON CITY, Sorsogon --- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has entered into a partnership with MKV Builders and Construction Supply, designating the latter as an official training ground for aspiring construction professionals in Gubat, Sorsogon.

“The partnership marks a significant step in advancing the enterprise-based education and training (EBET) program in the province,” said Gilda Ranido, the TESDA provincial director for Sorsogon.

“It gives our trainees the chance to apply their knowledge in real workplaces, learn directly from industry experts, and build the confidence and competence they need to thrive in the world of work,” she added.

Joel Navarro, the chief of the TESDA Bicol operations division, emphasized that the EBET program represents a new approach to skills training, moving beyond traditional classroom settings.

Under this program, trainees will engage directly with MKV Builders on construction projects, gaining practical experience, especially in hydraulic excavation.

“This approach allows learners to operate actual equipment at real job sites, ensuring they are ready for the industry,” Navarro explained.

“It’s a trend not only in the Philippines but also in advanced countries like Singapore and Australia,” he added.

Eldreen Ann Vargas, the general manager of MKV Builders, expressed the company’s strong support for the program, recognizing it as a vital step in strengthening both their workforce and the national economy.

“As a corporation committed to excellence and technology, we believe that investing in skills development is a shared responsibility between the government and the private sector,” Vargas stated. “Through EBET, we aim to provide meaningful learning experiences that bridge theory and practice.”

Benhur Fungo III, a trainer at MKV Builders with six years of field experience, said the program gives him an opportunity to share real-world knowledge and techniques with trainees.

Meanwhile, participant John Melvin Guardian from Gubat expressed his gratitude, stating that the training will significantly enhance their skills and job readiness, both locally and abroad.

“It’s a big help for us because we’re learning through actual, on-site operations,” he said. “We are thankful to TESDA and MKV Builders for providing us with this free training opportunity.”(Marivic Aringo contributed to this report/PIA Bicol)
