The Senate Line-Up
In our column last week we wrote about the probability of no less than three major presidential and vice-presidential tandem which would slug out this coming May 9, 2022 national and local elections. On the other hand, in the senatorial race records obtained indicate that there are 178 who filed their Certificates of Candidacies (COCs), while only 12 candidates may be voted upon by the electorate, assuming that the voter chooses to vote for all the 12 slates. From experience however, the voter generally does not cast his vote for the entire slate. It is worthwhile to note that the senatorial candidates are mostly qualified in terms of experience, known honesty, sincerity and personal data, hence our voters will have the good opportunity of being able to choose whom they believe is most qualified. In our system of government the Senate is usually composed of mature and independent members with most, if not all, are equipped with good educational background. Hence, senate bills are deliberated, voted on and passed, generally, not merely on partisan considerations but on its impact on the community, the citizenry and the country as a whole. Hence, it is perceived that the Senate is the breeding ground for the Presidency or Vice-Presidency of our country. It is our hope that the electorate will exercise the right of suffrage intelligently and wisely in the coming 2022 polls, sans any consideration other than the good of our people and country.
It is barely 31 days away from Christmas, and with Alert Level 2 protocols, many are out in malls and other department stores for Christmas shopping, with young children in tow. We only hope that all will observe the usual health protocols to prevent another surge of COVID 19. Otherwise, we may never be able to go back to a better normal.
TRIVIA:
Through this column, I would like to express my most sincere and utmost condolences and that of my spouse Minda to our family friend Cecil Felipe-Sibulo and the rest of the Felipe-Sibulo family for the passing of Atty. Marianito “Nitoy” Sibulo. Nitoy has been a close friend for about five decades and is almost like a brother to me, and it is indeed hard and most painful to lose him, were it not for the consoling thought that he is now in the warm embrace of the Lord. His remains lie in state at Imperial Funeral Parlor and is scheduled for internment tomorrow, November 25, 2021, after the Funeral Mass at the Basilica Minore.
