Thoughts of the Week

Reports from tv and other print and broadcast media have indicated the probability that Mayor Sara Duterte of Davao might run for President with her father incumbent President DU3 as her running mate for Vice-President. On the other hand, reports have likewise shown that most leaders of the Opposition party are one in fielding incumbent Vice-President Leny Robreado as their official candidate for President. While this political arrangement has not been confirmed by both the administration party and the opposition stalwarts, some political pundits have expressed the naughty idea that it would be a twist of fortune if VP Leny Robredo wins as President and incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte as Vice-President. Well, indeed it is a naughty idea but the possibility is not remote. We might even say it is a probability. But then, is this not a case of a political dynasty?

Due to rampant incidents of COVID 19 cases, Naga City and the rest of Camarines Sur have been placed under MGCQ once again. This means that the stay home protocol is once again in implementation for children and senior citizens. Having been twice vaccinated, my spouse and I were already looking forward to being able to go out malling and breathe some fresh air out but as things are we have to forego the plan and abide by the protocol. The incidence of COVID 19 cases in Naga would not have been rampant had most of the populace observed the required protocol imposed by the IATF and local authorities. Thus sheer discipline in the observance of the protocol is what is needed.

TRIVIA:

Through this column I wish to extend in my own behalf and that of my spouse Minda our most sincere and profound condolence to the family of the late retired Judge Esteban Abonal. A faithful husband, a dedicated and upright public servant it has been my pleasure to have associated with him as a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Assembly. He will certainly be missed but we are somehow consoled by the thought that he is now in the warm embrace of the Lord.

Similarly our condolences also to the family of my friend and compadre Totoy Reorizo for the demise of his spouse Cora who died while in California for a vacation and medical check-up. Corazon Igarta by name when still single, she was a batchmate of my spouse Minda in the College of Nursing at U.P. Diliman years back.
