Timeline of the History of the Devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia

1428: The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Simon Vela and said, “Simon, stay awake and do not sleep! Go to Peña de Francia, which lies in the Western regions. Search for an image similar to me. You will find it in a cave and once there, I will tell you what you must do.”

Simon then spent the following years, specifically in 1428-1434, looking for the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
