Timeline of the History of the Devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia

1434: Simon Vela arrived in San Martin de Castañar. Here, he encountered a coal merchant from Peña de Francia, whom he decided to follow.


It was on May 14, 1435 that Simon Vela found the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was accompanied by 4 men who had ailments at the time. Upon retrieving the said image, all men, including Simon, were healed.
