Tricycle drivers to get gov't aid

By Connie Calipay

LEGAZPI CITY --- A total of 3,205 tricycle drivers from four towns and one city in Albay province whose livelihood was affected by the successive increases in the prices of petroleum products will receive aid from the government.

The move is under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-5 (Bicol), with the help of Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Cabredo.

In an interview on Thursday, Shaira Mae, Cabredo's daughter and chief political affairs officer, said: "The payouts are set on Oct. 20, 21 and 23 in different distribution sites. Each beneficiary will receive PHP2,740 or a total of PHP8.7 million in assistance intended for the tricycle drivers and their family’s needs."

Beneficiaries from Libon (293) and Ligao City (781) will receive the assistance on Oct. 20; those from Guinobatan (1,613) on Oct. 21; and those from Polangui (315) and Oas (203) on Oct. 23.

"Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Cabredo would like to thank DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian for granting his request to provide financial aid to our hardworking tricycle drivers," Cabredo said.

She recalled that her father, together with the DSWD, also distributed cash aid to tricycle drivers in 2021. (PNA)
