Two killed, 1 injured on weekend gun shooting

TWO persons were killed and one was injured in separate shooting incidents that took place last Saturday, December 17, in the province of Camarines Sur.


The victim, a resident of Barangay Colacling in the town of Lupi, was identified as Manuel Lumaban, 44, of Zone 1. Lumaban was reportedly shot dead at around 12:00 noon by an identified gunman while taking a rest beneath a house canopy at Zone 4, in Colacling.


Police Senior Master Sergeant Jessie Baybay, investigator of the case told Bicol Mail that Lumaban was seen arguing with someone whose identity has not been established yet by the police. The unknown person was believed the one who shot Lumaban.


Baybay said the victim suffered gunshot wound in his forehead and right arm, causing him to die instantly.


Police report said that the victim was rushed to Sipocot District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The suspect has remained scot-free from the time he committed the murder.


At around 30 minutes after Lumaban was shot, another shooting incident took place at Zone 8 in Barangay Lidong in Presentacion town where a suspected member or former member of the New People’s Army, a certain Vinceo Orolfo, was killed.


Orolfo, according to Police Staff Sergeant Jonathan Morado, investigator on case, is a resident also of Barangay Lidong who was seen casually walking on the road immediately after the commission of the crime.


Based on the police report, the victim received multiple gunshot wounds from three unidentified male persons that caused his death. Morado said the victim suffered a gunshot wound in the forehead and several more in the body.


The police is still on the process of knowing the victim’s background to confirm his alleged membership in the rebel group as the motive in the killing has yet to be established also.


Back in Lupi, at around 7:30 in the evening of December 17 a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit, one named Kingslee Mabini, 31, of Zone 1B, Barangay Napolidan was shot in his butt and right leg by 2 unidentified suspects.


Police Major Bienvenido Enciso, Lupi chief of police, said that an investigation is being conducted to identify the suspects. He added that the motive is still unknown.


Based from the initial and available result of the investigation, the victim, who is presently assigned in Barangay Sooc Patrol Base, Charlie Coy, 81st Infantry Battalion, was brought to Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center in Barangay San Pedro, Cabusao town where he was given medical treatment. Enciso confirmed that the victim is recovering.
