UNC UPEC’s Presents for Parents

The Second Student Skills Summit

As the University of Nueva Caceres paves way for the great, grand, and glorious Diamond Jubilee come 2023, the May month embraced the theme Kilyab: Rising, Soaring, and Shining. As promised, our future-ready students once again took the stage and the spotlight to surprise us in the much-anticipated 2nd Student Skills Summit (SSS) of UNC. SSS is UNC’s special gift to our UNCean parents and guardians. In this demonstration of UNC’s outcome-based education and skills enhancement programs, we witnessed a showcase of student skills, a celebration of school spirit, and a festival of presentations by our future-ready UNCeans.

SSS is spearheaded by the University Parent Engagement Center (UPEC) managed by the Focal Person, Ma’am Nelia San Jose, through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, headed by VP Dr. Romeo M. Sumayo Jr. This activity was held in partnership with the Admissions, Marketing and Strategic Communications Office headed by Prof. Ruby L. Bandola, and the UNC Academic Team, especially Dr. Vivian Fortuno, Dr. Ronnie Castro, and Mr. Ernesto Gurnot, Jr., Principals of Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School, respectively.

Invited reactors in the 2nd Student Skills Summit were education leaders and supervisors from the Department of Education, Naga City: Ms. Corazon Fatima A. Silerio, Education Program Supervisor, Kindergarten & MTB-MLE; Mrs. Ma. Belen Q. Lurcha, Education Program Supervisor, Science & Health; and Mr. Jarme D. Taumatorgo, Education Program Supervisor, Araling Panlipunan. Parents also joined the roster of reactors: Mrs. Karla D. Rala, Mrs. Aileen V. Domanico, and Mrs. Melanie V. Dante.

Making Significant Headway

Less than a year after its inception, the University Parent Engagement Center has steadily provided opportunities for parents to experience the nurturing environment and delightful services at the University. As a newly launched institutional office in the University of Nueva Caceres, UPEC is dedicated to engaging the parents in various meaningful milestones and University activities that are crucial to students’ success.

In its Launching Program last year, UPEC created family moments that brought home the true spirit of UNCean family- the UNCean way. During the holidays, from our campus to every home, we spread the Christmas Cheers: Pasko ng Pamilyang UNCeano, the first-ever fun family competition at UNC featuring students performing with parents, siblings, guardians, and relatives, who are mostly UNC alumni. Equipping parents with financial education is UPEC’s Project Ipon, which promotes the basic concept of financial literacy and inculcates the value of saving money among parents and children. A year ago, the First Student Skills Summit in 2021 witnessed a wide array of impressive skills from all academic units of UNC - from Basic Education to the College Level. The featured presentation exhibited the UNCean spirit and core values. The student outputs offer the potential to address community needs. All the participants demonstrated superior skills and delivery.

Honoring the Parents - Our Partners

The parents are our partners in nurturing future-ready and work-ready students. The University of Nueva Caceres honors and salutes the parents for fulfilling their roles in the academic journey and success of our students by making their home a better home for learners. We believe that the formation of the foundation for the future is built at home and in school. Future-readiness and work-readiness begin at home. Surrounding the students with a circle of constructive community brings out the best in them. Today matters tomorrow, indeed. Parents help build the foundation for the future and set up their child’s success, now. UNC is grateful to the parents, guardians, and benefactors who have entrusted their child’s success to UNC and have invested in their child’s future, today.
