Various sectors join International Coastal Clean-up

VIRAC, Catanduanes --- Employees of national government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and other volunteers participated in the 2022 International Clean-up held in the coastal areas of Virac and Bato towns.


In this province, this year’s activity was spearheaded by Catanduanes State University together with the provincial government of Catanduanes, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA).

Prior to the conduct of the clean-up was an activity wherein an orientation and briefing for the participants was held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.


In his message, Provincial Administrator Lemuel P. Surtida who represented Governor Joseph C. Cua, said that participating in the coastal clean-up means doing one’s share to save the environment, making the coasts cleaner and the oceans healthier.


The activity was pursuant to Proclamation No. 470 which in 2003 declared the third Saturday of September each year as the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) day in observance of the global coastal clean-up celebrations.


Other participants were the following: Provincial Congressional Office, DILG, PIA, Development Bank of the Philippines, SSS, Provincial Government Offices of Catanduanes, BFAR, TESDA, BJMP, Civil Service Commission, PNP, Philippine Army, COA, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, PHO, Radyo Pilipinas, DepEd, DAR, FICELCO, Inc., CDHI, Department of Agriculture, DepEd Catanduanes, and volunteers.


The local governments of other towns also conducted coastal clean-up in their respective areas of jurisdiction. (PIA5/Catanduanes)
