Vehicular mishap injures 11

ELEVEN people, including a passenger utility jeepney driver, were injured after the vehicle reportedly suffered a brake malfunction and overturned along a downhill section of Barangay Lipilip, Sipocot, Camarines Sur on Monday, August 3.

According to the Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO), the accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. while the jeepney was traveling from Sipocot town proper to Barangay Binahian. The driver told investigators that he applied the brakes while descending the road, but the brakes allegedly malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to go out of control and overturn.

The driver and all 10 passengers sustained physical injuries and were immediately brought by the Sipocot Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to the Sipocot District Hospital for treatment. The jeepney also sustained damage, although authorities have yet to determine the cost.

Police officers from the Sipocot Municipal Police Station responded to the incident and conducted an investigation at the hospital. A traffic citation was issued to the driver, while a Traffic Incident Report (TIR) was prepared. Authorities also verified the driver’s records through the Investigation Solution System as part of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, in Buhi town, a 56-year-old man was arrested by police during the implementation of a search warrant for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act No. 10591) in Zone 6, Barangay Sta. Clara, Buhi, Camarines Sur on Monday morning, August 3.

The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO) reported that personnel of the Buhi Municipal Police Station implemented the search warrant at around 9:35 a.m., resulting in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of four magazines and 27 rounds of .45-caliber ammunition.

Police said the seized items were properly marked and inventoried at the scene in the presence of the suspect and required witnesses. The operation was documented using two issued alternative body-worn cameras.

The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understood before being taken to the Buhi Municipal Police Station for documentation. He was later brought to the Rural Health Unit for medical examination. Authorities are preparing the necessary documents for the filing of criminal charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591.
