VP Leni: Wide coverage of typhoon aftermath from ABS-CBN is missed

Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo has been told by survivors of typhoon Odette how ABS-CBN’s usual media coverage during this unfortunate time affects them.

“Ito po, very common na sinasabi sa amin na wala na kasing ABS-CBN, so wala na sa aming nagko-cover,” Robredo said.

The network’s regional stations across the country had covered typhoon-affected areas extensively, until the network’s shutdown in 2020.

Many affected areas in Visayas and Mindanao also don’t have their power supplies back yet, and signal from telecommunication providers remain weak. “...kahit kami na nandoon mahirap mag-communicate dito,” Robredo said.

“Napakahirap pong magpadala ng mga pictures except yung mga galing doon na nakalabas na,” she added.

Prior to Robredo’s statement, several citizens took to social media how there were not enough news stories about it. A correspondent from ABS-CBN appealed for patience.

“WE ARE NOT THE SAME REGIONAL REPORTERS AS BEFORE – we now have lean manpower and scarce resources,” she said in a Facebook post.

Add to that that these field reporters are just as much affected by the typhoon.
