Wage board to balance hike with MSMEs viability

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Bicol is eager to grant wage increases to workers, but any adjustments must be tailored to the needs of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to a board official.
Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Secretary Francia Ocmer emphasized that the more than 50,000 MSMEs are the backbone of Bicol’s economy, making their participation in the upcoming hearings, scheduled for March 7 and 10 in Naga City and Legazpi City, essential.
“Their input during the hearings is crucial for developing balanced and inclusive wage policies that will benefit both businesses and workers,” Ocmer stated.
She has sent invitations to all micro, small and medium enterprises and other stakeholders to encourage their participation, as the hearings will address current socioeconomic conditions.
The goal is to ensure that any wage adjustments are acceptable to both parties while maintaining the sustainability of businesses.
The hearings will provide a platform for workers, employers and business owners to share their insights, concerns and recommendations on this important matter.
Originally scheduled for November 2025, the hearing was postponed due to the impact of Tropical Storm Kristine on the region.
